Over the past year Birmingham Alabama’s “The Other Day” has established itself in the Magic City’s booming night life at venues like Daniel Day Gallery, Iron City Grill, The Boss Lounge, Buck Mulligans, The Syndicate, Workplay, Moonlight on the Mountain as well as festivals including the RAINN Benefit at Saturn, the River Keeper Benefit at Good People Brewery and the Woodstock Alabama Music Festival, (benefitting meals on wheels.) Their sound is as unique as it is appealing, mixing elements of Bossa Nova and Samba with Memphis and Muscle Shoals flavored R&B, Blues and even a bit of Disco – all of which serve to create an alluring sense of nostalgia that club goers seem to LOVE. The band has put together an impressive and eclectic catalogue of original and cover music that ranges from jazz and bossa nova classics to Bee Gees, Aretha and Winehouse. In addition to having a gifted singer like Jennifer Skates (who also plays flute and trumpet with the band), The Other Day has managed to put together a lineup of seasoned musicians whose sense of dynamics and chemistry are undeniable, along with the creative songwriting team of Jennifer Skates and Bobby & Catt Shiflett (ASCAP). In 2016 The Other Day released its self-produced debut CD, “Night Flowers,” featuring seven original songs that showcased their writing and playing chops. These Latin inspired songs have been well received and are continuing to find a new and devoted audience, not just locally but throughout the world. Most recently the band spent some time with Les Nuby (Verbena and Vulture Whale) at Ol’ Elegante Studios cutting live demo tracks of songs to be considered for their upcoming second album.

The Other Day’s lineup features Jennifer Skates: vocals, flute, trumpet. songwriter, lyricist | Bobby Shiflett: guitarist, vocals, songwriter, lyricist | Jeff Waites: bassist, vocals | Stephen Casteel: guitar | Randy Blythe: drums | Derek Nolin: keyboards, vocals | Catt Shiflett: lyricist, public relations and herder of cats.
